I am currently writing history about my GGGrandpa, Chester Morrison Fuller. He was a private in co. E of the 78Th Ohio. I feel it important to find all info possible about the 78Th to insure their story does not fade away in the coming generations. Please forward any info to my email.

I read with great interest the CIVIL WAR DIARIES of CAPTAIN CYRUS MARION ROBERTS 78TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY AND U.S. ARMY SIGNAL CORPS as transcribed by Bradley T. Lepper & Mary E. Lepper (Sweeten) Great-great grandson and great granddaughter of 2nd Lieutenant Cyrus Marion Roberts. In their transcription they mention (several times) my Great-Great Grandfather Lt. Julian R. Fitch and also a Capt. Meeker. As I am in possession of my Great-Great Grandfathers photo album I have a photo of Capt. Meeker. I will look to see if there is a photo of Lt. Roberts as well. Additionally I would love to be contacted by his family for an exchange of information.

Joseph Rarick, great-great grandfather on my mother's side was drafted and mustered in to Company C, 78th OVI as a Private on 5 Oct 1864. He had previously served 100 days service in the 133rd Ohio National Guard Infantry, Company B. His occupation was listed as shoe-maker, and physical description was grey eyes, brown hair, medium complexion, height was 5 feet 5 inches. Joseph mustered out with the Regiment 11 Jul 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky having participated in Sherman's march and the battle of Bentonville, North Carolina. He was absent, sick in the hospital at Goldsboro 1 Apr 1865 to 5 Apr 1865. With many thanks to Carl, his picture, taken about 1890, can be seen in the photo gallery for Company C.

Henry Hampshire lived in Granville, He was a private in Company J, 78th Regiment of the OVI. He died at Shiloh of Disease near Pittsburg Landing and Monterey i.e., (Mitchie? today)on 22 May 1862. I figure He was involved in the buriel of many men on the battle field. They show no record of him being buried at Shiloh. Looking for where He may have been buried. He has a brother in law buried at Shiloh named Eli Butler from Granville also. Maybe someone might want to update the company J section with this name. The information comes from National Archieves in Washington.
